I’m happy to announce that I’m not just a blogger, I’m now a published author. My article “Mining your package cache for problem SQL in DB2 for Linux, UNIX, and Windows” is published today on the developerWorks site. It is the very first time my work has been published. I write every week for this blog, some weeks more than others, and have been doing that for a year, after a year or two before that of casual/occasional blogging. Doing so has taught me a lot – through in-depth research to support my posts and through reader comments. It is a lot of work to write that much, But I’ve committed to it and stuck to it. It’s brought me good things beyond just learning. I’ll be presenting at the IDUG North America Technical conference in Orlando in April/May. I also got a promotion at work that was largely tied to my blog, though my employer does not own or endorse my blog, nor do I spend work time working on it.
The opportunity to write this developerWorks article came to me out of the DB2’s Got Talent Contest, so I highly recommend participating, even if the person who wins is the person with the most friends who vote – even if you don’t win, great opportunities can come out of it.
